We played according to our strength and got series win with one game to spare said Sri Lanka key leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga after the second West Indies ODI at Pallekele.
We realized their weakness and always made plans and it was well executed so far in this series .We saw opponent West Indies going for big shots but our spinners did well to control them and notched up back to back wins in this series. We wanted to give less runs to with dot balls .We saw their 119 runs 9 th wicket stand between Rutherford and Motie but we knew this wicket breakthrough was enough to bowled them. out
Getting 4 for 40 gave big boost for me and I am happy to make my contribution to team success added Hasaranga. I wanted to continue my rhythm to get more wickets. Always tried to bowl more dot balls to put more pressure. We played with less pacemen as the wicket was more favourable for spinners. However paceman Asitha Fernando did really well to pick three wickets and his effort was more important . We missed two vital catches which helped in their ninth wicket stand and that can happen in any game and we wanted to rectify those mistakes. As a team we fielded very well except for a few drop catches. Always tried to keep my fitness which is important at the white ball format.
Every player should consider his fitness and as a bowler I also concerned about my fitness. I had hamstring injury and this occured six times and tried to play without further injuries added Hasaranga. We always work with our trainer and physiotherapist to avoid injury with rehabilitation work added Hasaranga. According to team composition I have to bat in lower order position. But as a player I think batting position is not important and what ever position I get wanted to play my best to get team success. As a spinner I never think about my batting position.
We got early 8 wickets and finally we limited them to 189. As a team we got both T -20 and ODI series and these victories very important to go forward.
Charith Asalanka’s leadership is exceptional. He was my captain from under 13 team at Richmond college. We have good understanding from the beginning.
He is always very positive and as a leader he gives good leadership and we always wanted to give support to our leader to get more success concluded Wanindu who finished the second game with 4 for 40 at Pallekele.
