We had a good plan and that’s worked out very well to get victory over Afghanistan in this test said Sri Lankan new Test captain Dhananjaya de Silva after the test match win at SSC grounds yesterday. It’s quite a tough job captaining a side with so many senior players and three former skippers Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal who have shown their capability in this long format game said Dhananjaya the 18th Sri Lanka Test skipper. All credit should go to the team and all were very committed while bowlers, batters did their responsibility very well to finish the game.
Afghanistan batted with confidence on third days play with 199 for 1 wicket at that stage but we had a plan yesterday after getting new ball and it really worked very well said all rounder de Silva. The fast bowlers really did well but my spinner Prabath Jayasuriya finished it in great style and Prabath is my match winning bowler and his bowling was very effective added skipper Dhananjaya. We came to the match with a good plan. We wanted to maintain good run rate and we did it as expected which brought success. However Afghan team also played good cricket and we hope to continue our winning mentality he said. When asked about his run out he said I called for that run but Angelo was tired and it was definitely my fault. Angelo Mathews had scored hundred and was tired so I should have stayed at the crease that time said Dhananjaya.
I had confidence to get wickets says Jayasuriya
Meanwhile man of the match Prabath Jayasuriya said I am really happy with my bowling performance. The last couple of days were tough but I was determined to bowl and get success to grab five wickets. This is my home ground SSC and more confidence for me and apart from Galle Grounds I was able to get five wickets in an innings and now more challenge at next tests overseas and looking forward to do well. Not like domestic cricket tournament matches the wicket had bit more grass and pace but i did my basics to get a match bag of eight wickets, added Prabath.
