Sri Lanka’s 4x25m Girls and Boys Lifesaving Manikin Relay teams set two new national records at the ongoing Lifesaving World Championship in Gold Coast, Australia.In the Inter-Club category, the Sri Lankan girls’ team, featuring Vinuki Perera, Sandali Sumathipala, Sinali Rajapaksa, and Thenushi Kalawitigoda, clocked an impressive 1:58.80 in the 4x25m relay, shattering the previous record of 2:21.55 set by Musaeus College at the 72nd Nationals in Matara last year.
The boys’ team, consisting of Nimuthu Perera, Hiruna de Silva, captain Dilanka Shehan, and Senal Pathirathna, also made history, finishing in 1:30.88, breaking the former record of 1:35.94 set by Sri Lanka Police ‘A’ team at the 2023 Nationals in Matara.
Meanwhile, a member of the Sri Lankan Lifesaving team, representing the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement and an alumnus of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa, has become the Asian Champion in the 2km Beach Run. This achievement also earned him a world ranking of 9th in the Inter-Club category.
Earlier in the tournament, the Sri Lankan lifesaving team set two new meet records in the 4x50m Lifesaving Medley Relay for both boys and girls. These new records bring the total to four national records set by Sri Lankan teams at the Lifesaving World Championship, which concluded yesterday in Gold Coast, Australia.
