Sri Lanka’s Kaya Daluwatte narrowly missed out on victory at the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship, finishing as the runner-up in the Class A division in the final round held at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
The 16-year-old Sri Lanka’s number one golfer, recorded a total gross score of 298, just one stroke behind Vietnam’s Chuc An Lee, who won with a score of 297. Both Daluwatte and An Lee carded identical scores of 77 in the final round.
Daluwatte started the tournament with an impressive three-under-par 69 in the first round and followed it with a three-over-par 75 in the second round. However, a setback in the third round saw her finish with a seven-over-par 79, which contributed to the gap between her and the champion.
In the boys’ division, Sri Lanka’s team also showed commendable performances. Reshan Algama led the boys’ team, finishing in 13th place with a gross score of 310, while Jacob Norton ended in 15th place with a total of 325.
Thailand’s Nithidpong Srichathpiran stood out in the boys’ division, securing first place with an impressive gross score of 292. Meanwhile, Allison Ng from the Philippines, made her mark in the girls’ competition, finishing third with a gross score of 301.
