Sri Lanka on track for another record-breaking month in tourist arrivals

Sri Lanka is on track for another record-breaking month in tourist arrivals this February, with arrivals in the first 20 days surpassing 175,000.

The provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority shows that the island nation welcomed 175,436 foreign visitors during this period, marking a 14.76 percent year-on-year increase compared to the same time last year.

If the current trend continues, Sri Lanka could record its best-ever February, exceeding 245,000 tourists. The previous record was set in 2018, with 235,618 arrivals.

So far this month, the country has seen an average of 8,772 daily arrivals, up from 7,644 per day in the same period last year.

India remains the largest source of tourist traffic, contributing 25,293 arrivals, followed by Russia, with 22,280 and the UK in the third place, with 18,785.

Year to date, Sri Lanka has recorded 428,197 tourist arrivals as it aims to reach its target of three million visitors in 2025. (NF)
