Sri Lanka booked a place in the semi-finals with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Pacific Oceania in their quarter-final clash at the 2026 Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying Event worked off at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo yesterday.
The hosts showed strong character and control under pressure to seal the tie, with Ashlin de Silva and Mayooran Kubherne delivering impressive singles wins to keep Sri Lanka’s title hopes alive in the 15-nation tournament.
Ashlin de Silva was tested in a gripping first singles encounter but displayed great resilience to overcome Aifili Tamasosslii in three sets. After narrowly losing the first set in a tie-break 6-7, Ashlin bounced back in dominant fashion to take the second set 6-1. He then held his nerve in a tense decider to close out the match 7-5 and give Sri Lanka a crucial 1-0 lead.
In the second singles, Mayooran Kubherne produced a clinical performance to wrap up the tie in style. He outclassed Uraia Biauniceva with a commanding straight-sets victory, 6-1, 6-1, showing superior consistency and control from the baseline.
With this victory, Sri Lanka advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, which features 15 nations including Macau, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Oman, Turkmenistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Guam, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Mongolia, Pacific Oceania and hosts Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will now take on Malaysia in the semi-final today, aiming to continue their strong run and move closer to qualification for the next stage of the prestigious junior team event.
