Second edition of Alles Cup on Saturday

  • Strengthening a growing rugby legacy

D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo and St. Anthony’s College, Katugasthota will meet for the second edition of the Alles Cup at Havelock Park on Saturday (9).

The fixture, first played in 2025, was introduced in honour of the late R. I. T. Alles, founding principal of D. S. Senanayake College and an alumnus of St. Anthony’s College.

The encounter reflects a shared emphasis by both schools on balancing academic and sporting development.

The inaugural match produced a competitive contest, with D. S. Senanayake College secured a 26-19 victory.

With the second edition approaching, both teams are set to renew the rivalry, building on what is emerging as a regular fixture in the schools’ rugby calendar.

The Alles Cup continues to highlight values such as leadership, teamwork, resilience and respect, alongside competition between the two sides.

“The Alles Cup has already become something truly special for both our schools. It represents far more than a game of rugby, it is a reflection of our values, history and a vision that continues to guide our students” said D. S Principal Sampath Weragoda.

‘’Following last year’s memorable encounter, we look forward to another spirited contest that showcases the growth of our players and the strength of school rugby.’’

Echoing similar sentiments, SACK Rector/Principal Rev. Fr. Henry Wijethunghe added “This fixture has quickly grown into an occasion we deeply value. It brings together two proud institutions in a way that celebrates tradition while inspiring the next generation. We anticipate a competitive and respectful game that upholds the true spirit of rugby.”
