31The second day of the Ritzbury-sponsored 53rd Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship, organized by Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association, saw three new meet records at the Kotawila Sports Complex in Matara yesterday.
Sinura Salgado from St Benedict’s College, Kotahena, set a new record in the Boys Under-14 600m, completing the race in 1:29.8, breaking the previous record.
In the Boys Under-12 High Jump, KWS Pabasara from Vijitha MMV Dickwella cleared 1.55m, setting a new meet record. He surpassed the previous record of 1.51m, set by MBN Tharul of SWRD Bandaranaike College Kurunegala last year.
The Girls Under-14 600m also saw a new record as G Aloka from Lyceum International School Wattala finished the race in 1:41.7, breaking the previous record of 1:42.6 set by KGMN Dharmadasa of Sujatha Vidyalaya Mawanella in 2023.
With these three new records, the meet has now seen a total of seven new records set over the first two days. The three-day event will conclude today.
