MCA emerge champions at CVC’s inaugural 50 plus league tourney 2024

An all round performances by Duminda Somaweera scoring a star studded 58 runs not out in 33 balls including ( 3 sixes / 6fours) and capturing 2 wickets with Punyakantha Abeygunasekara playing an entertaining innings scoring 52 runs in 34 balls including 10 fours, also capturing 2 wickets steered Mercantile Cricket Association to beat Nationalised Services Cricket Association by 6 wickets in the last match of the inaugural CVC’s league tournament 2024, organised and conducted by the Ceylon Veterans Cricket, played at the Nationalised Services Cricket Association ground, Ratmalana on the 06th of October 2024.

Mercantile Cricket Association Captained by Sanjaya Attanayake winning all their league matches was declared as the champions at this CVC’s inaugural tournament 2024.

In the last match, MCA Captain Sanjaya Attanayake winning the toss invited NSCA, Captained by M.Gerard to bat first. NSCA scored 160 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 40 overs and MCA in reply took past the winning total in the 18th over.

In the match against NSCA, Punyakantha Abeygunasekara of MCA was adjudged as the man of the match whilst Kishan Dharmasena of MCA was adjudged as the Most Outstanding fielder. Duminda Somaweera of MCA scoring 193 runs in 4 matches with 2 not outs including a century was named as the highest scorer of the tournament.
