Sri Lanka welcomes over 94,000 tourists in first 11 days of 2026 as key source markets whilst showing strong momentum in tourist arrivals
Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has recorded a robust start to 2026, welcoming a total of 94,041 international visitors during the first 11 days of January, according to the latest Weekly Report issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). The figures reflect sustained recovery and growing confidence in the destination, supported by strong inflows from both traditional and emerging source markets.
India emerged as Sri Lanka’s largest source market, accounting for 16,772 arrivals, representing 18 percent of total tourist traffic during the period. The continued dominance of India highlights the importance of short-haul travel and strong air connectivity in driving early-year arrivals.

Germany secured the fourth position with 7,060 tourists (7 percent), while Australia ranked fifth, recording 4,591 arrivals, representing 5 percent of the total inflow. European markets continued to perform steadily, with France contributing 3,671 visitors (4 percent), while China recorded 3,490 arrivals, also accounting for 4 percent, indicating gradual recovery in East Asian travel.
