Kelani Saviya 12th intake enrolls 70 students with Rs 1.7 Mn sponsorship

Kelani Cables PLC continued its unique award winning Kelani Saviya skill development CSR program for the 17th year by enrolling 70 students as its 12th intake at a ceremony held in University of Peradeniya (UoP) recently with a total sponsorship of Rs 1.7 million.

The Kelani Saviya 12th inauguration ceremony was held recently at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya under the patronage of Dean Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Udaya Dissanayake, Head,Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Professor Lilantha Samaranayake ,Course Director M N R K Ratnayake, Dr. Wasantha Wickremasinghe, Director Engineering Designed Center and Dr. Dinesh Suranga Pathirana, Head of Sales Kelani Cables, Kassapa Yatawatta, Manager Brand Development and Media Manager, Kelani Saviya Co-initiator & Coordinator Jayantha Wijesinghe.

70 students were eligible to follow the 2024/2025 Kelani Saviya skill development program this year. The first module was conducted for them by Senior Professor Manjula Fernando who was the former Chairman of the PUCSL. The Kelani Saviya program was designed by Senior Professor Janaka Ekanayake, who was the Co- Initiator of the joint CSR program launched in 2007.

Since 2007 up to date Kelani Cables Plc has totally funded the CSR project . Dr. Pathirana handed over the cheque of Rs1.7 million to the UoP Authorities at the ceremony. Addressing the gathering Dr. Pathirana said the Kelani Saviya skill development CSR program has been continued for a period of over 17 years and it probably could be the only CSR programme to be held continuously in Sri Lanka for such a long period. He said Kelani cables has become one of the strongest bands in Sri Lanka and exports its products to over 13 countries. The company in the last financial year made a huge contribution to the GDP of the country posting over Rs 13 billion turnover, and providing over 500 direct employment opportunities, he said.
