The Sri Lanka Under-18 rugby team, known as the Junior Tuskers, led by Vishenka Silva of St. Peter’s College, returned home after securing a bronze medal at the Asian Rugby Emirates Under-18 Sevens Rugby Tournament in Malaysia.
This marks Sri Lanka’s first podium finish at the event in eight years and their first major success since the rugby ban was lifted.
In a thrilling Cup segment Third Place Playoff, the Junior Tuskers edged past host nation Malaysia with a 17-14 victory to claim the elusive bronze medal.
During the group stages, Sri Lanka won two matches and drew one. They defeated Thailand 27-0, overcame Chinese Taipei 29-12, and drew 17-all against Hong Kong. (S.J.)
