Four Sri Lankan junior tennis stars claimed victories in the first round Singles of the ongoing ITF World Junior J60 Tournament at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts yesterday.
National champion Dinara de Silva, one of Sri Lanka’s top junior players, secured a strong win against Poland’s Victoria Luo Freitas in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4 in the Girls’ Singles first round match.
In the Boys’ Singles, junior national champion Methvan Wijemanne fought hard to overcome India’s Sri Sai Satyaram in a thrilling three-set match. Wijemanne won 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the next round.
Ganuka Fernando also performed impressively, defeating Tihg Ho Vang of Chinese Taipei in straight sets, 5-4, 6-3, to secure his place in the second round.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Gehansa Methnadi battled through a tough match against India’s Saanvi Reddy Erva, eventually triumphing 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a hard-fought contest.
The ITF World Junior J60 Tournament continues at the SLTA courts with participants from 15 countries, running until September 15.
