Former Sri Lanka ace swimmer, veteran administrator and versatile coach, K. Janaka Lal announced his retirement after 37 years of yeoman service.
The former schoolboy of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, was a talented athlete and swimmer where he dominated all Inter-Schools and national swimming events from 1970 to 1980.
He set Sri Lanka records in the 4X100m freestyle, 50m freestyle at the national swimming championships and also emerged as Sri Lanka’s fastest swimmer in 1987.
Janaka was also a top coach and was responsible for producing some talented schoolboy swimmers at Randombe Junior School and at P. de S. Kularatne MV in Ambalangoda.
