CINEC Campus, one of Sri Lanka’s leading non-state higher education institutions, announced that its BSc in Automotive Engineering and BSc in Mechanical Engineering programs have received conditional accreditation from the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL). This recognition further strengthens CINEC’s academic and professional reputation within the country’s higher education sector.
From the first batch of graduates onward, this accreditation allows students to attain Associate Membership of IESL, progress to Corporate Membership, and gain globally recognized professional engineering status. Notably, this also makes CINEC the only institution in Sri Lanka offering an IESL-accredited Automotive Engineering degree.
Professor Janaka Liyanagama, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at CINEC, described this accreditation as a milestone. He stated, “IESL conditional recognition is more than just a compliance assessment. It acknowledges our commitment to producing engineers who meet global professional standards. Through IESL membership, our graduates gain international recognition and direct access to engineering career opportunities worldwide. This reinforces CINEC’s role in developing a highly skilled, globally competitive engineering workforce.”
The Faculty of Engineering at CINEC comprises four departments: Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, and Automotive & Interdisciplinary Engineering. The faculty offers four-year BSc Engineering programs approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, BEng (Hons) degrees from Anglia Ruskin University, UK, MSc postgraduate degrees, higher national diplomas through Pearson UK, and foundational engineering programs. Among these accredited programs, CINEC uniquely offers degrees in specialized fields such as Automotive Engineering in Sri Lanka’s state and non-state higher education sectors.
This latest accreditation opens pathways for Sri Lankan engineers to access international labor markets and high-level professional opportunities, while further strengthening the trust CINEC has built among students, parents, and industry stakeholders.
Additionally, under its ‘Beyond a Graduate’ initiative, CINEC nurtures graduates and professionals ready for global employment across fields including marine sciences, engineering, management, education, English, health sciences, computing, chemistry, aviation vocational training, aircraft maintenance engineering, and hotel management.
CINEC has previously been recognized five times (2018/19, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25) with the Presidential Export Award for Outstanding Educational Service Exporter.
