Chairman of China’s MCC Group meets Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu

Chairman of MCC Group and China Metallurgical Corporation (MCC) and Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Chen Jianguang, met Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The two parties conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on cooperation in areas such as infrastructure construction, real estate development, and ecological environmental protection in the Maldives. MCC has great faith in Sri Lanka operating its regional office in Colombo which oversees Sri Lanka, The Maldives, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Currently headed by Liu Su, MCC has a commendable track record in Sri Lanka, having successfully completed the Colombo-Katunayake Airport Expressway in 2013, Outer Circular Highway NS II in 2019 and is currently engaged in the construction of Central Expressway Section 1. MCC has also played a pivotal role in facilitating funding for the aforementioned projects, totaling over USD 2.0 billion in Sri Lanka. Chen Jianguang stated that as the world’s largest and strongest metallurgical construction contractor and metallurgical enterprise operation service provider, MCC Group has successfully transformed in recent years, leveraging its professional technical advantages and business qualifications accumulated in the field of steel metallurgy. Currently, it has established a business structure of "one core, two main bodies, and five characteristics" and is striving towards the goal of "one creation, two firsts, and five strengths.

Maldivian President Muizzu recalled that they were one of the first countries to sign a cooperation agreement on jointly building the "Belt and Road" with China. President Xi Jinping's visit to the Maldives in 2014 opened a new chapter in China-Maldives cooperation. Since then, Chinese enterprises have widely participated in a series of cooperative projects in the Maldives, including housing, new energy, power grids, office buildings, and waste treatment.

President Muizzu welcomes MCC Group to actively participate in the Maldives' future five-year plan, increasing investment in and development of areas such as affordable housing, airport expansion, green energy, and fisheries. This will achieve a higher level of mutually beneficial cooperation. Leaders of relevant departments and subsidiaries of MCC Group, including Yang Ruobing and Xu Yongjie, attended the meeting.
