The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) excelled securing championships in the A, B, and C divisions at the Nationalized Services Volleyball Tournament, which concluded recently at the Salgado Indoor Stadium in Anuradhapura.
With the inclusion of national-level players, captain Ayesh Perera and Deepthi Romesh, and under the guidance of experienced coach Lalith Perera CEB’s dominance was undeniable.
The A Division final between CEB and Port Authority was a match full of drama and excitement. Port Authority initially took the upper hand by winning the first set 25-20. However, CEB, led by captain Ayesh Perera, fighting back to win the second set 29-27. In the third set, CEB took full control, easily defeating Port Authority 25-12 to clinch the title.
The B Division final saw CEB face People’s Bank, where the reigning champions delivered a dominant performance. CEB’s superior teamwork and attack saw them comfortably win both sets 25-16 and 25-18.
In the C Division final, CEB faced a tough challenge from Bank of Ceylon (BOC). CEB won the first set 25-19, but BOC responded strongly, winning the second set 25-23. Despite the setback, CEB regained their composure and sealed the match with a 25-17 win in the final set.
In the D Division, Sttate Phamaceutical Corporation (SPC) emerged champions, defeating National Savings Bank (NSB) in two straight sets. SPC dominated the match, winning 25-19 and 25-14.
In the Veteran’s Division, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) claimed victory over CEB, winning 25-16 and 25-14. Despite their loss, CEB’s performance in the tournament’s veteran category was commendable, but SLPA’s superior play in this division proved too strong.
