Amana Bank’s Marshad Barry appointed as Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council President
Amana Bank is delighted on the appointment of Marshad Barry to the Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) as its President for the year 2024/2025.
The announcement was made during the 30th Annual General Meeting of the SLMBC, which took place at the Union Ballroom, Hilton Residence, with High Commissioner of Malaysia in Sri Lanka Badli Hisham Adam gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The SLMBC functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Barry, currently serving as Deputy Head of OrphanCare at Amana Bank, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this new role. Prior to his appointment as President, Barry had served three consecutive years as Vice President and Executive Committee Member of the SLMBC, demonstrating the commitment to fostering strong business ties between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
Apart from his professional endeavours, Barry has actively contributed to various organisations. He previously held the position of Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3220 Sri Lanka and the Maldives and currently serves as Public Image Chair for Rotary Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He also holds the position of Secretary of the Colombo University Journalism Organisation and International Secretary of the Asian Media Culture Association.
Furthermore, Marshad is a Director of the Centre for Islamic Studies and Chairman of Foreign Relations and Youth Affairs of Moors Islamic Cultural Home. As Deputy Head of OrphanCare, Marshad oversees the impact and effectiveness of this unique programme, which focuses on avoiding a second abandonment at the age of 18 for orphans when they are forced to leave their care homes and empowering them towards leading fulfilling lives.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Barry stated, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as President of the Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council.
