On September 6th, from 10 AM to 7 PM, Tito’s Café at the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo will host a special event, 'A Cup of Kindness’, that promises to be a day of community spirit, delicious coffee, and charitable giving. This unique collaboration between the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, Dialog Axiata PLC, Lavazza (Colombo Coffee Company), and the Ratmalana Audiology Centre (RAC) is more than just a celebration of great coffee—it’s an opportunity to make a real difference.

All proceeds from the coffee sales during the event will directly benefit the Ratmalana Audiology Centre (RAC), an esteemed institution that has been transforming lives through hearing care in Sri Lanka for the past 17 years.

Established and supported by the Dialog Foundation, the RAC offers comprehensive services, including hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings, speech and language therapy, and special education. The center has been a beacon of hope for those with hearing, speech and language, and learning difficulties, providing them with the tools and support they need to fully participate in life. By joining this event, you will contribute to continuing this vital work, helping to create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

Ratmalana Audiology Centre

Dialog’s longest standing commitment to addressing the marginalised issues related to hearing, speech and language, and learning difficulties is embodied by the Ratmalana Audiology Centre (RAC). This non-profit social enterprise has lived up to its founding aspiration of being a centre of excellence in hearing and speech testing and therapy with the most challenging cases being referred to its care.

RAC is operated in partnership with the School for the Deaf in Ratmalana, providing regular free testing and speech therapy for its students as part of its mission. In line with its social responsibility policy, the RAC also provides free hearing tests and second-hand hearing aids to low-income individuals, subject to a recommendation from a government ENT doctor or Grama Niladhari. Additionally, free neonatal screening tests are conducted for newborns at nearby government hospitals, primarily at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila and the Kethumathi Maternity Hospital in Panadura.

Since its inception, Dialog has invested over 70 million rupees in the RAC. As of 2020, the RAC has extended its services to over 100,000 clients over the past 12 years. This sustainable operational model enables the RAC to cover its operational and administrative expenses, including staff salaries.

The Centre also provides free workshops for parents, teachers, and matrons of the School for the Deaf and assists other schools for the deaf located around the country. As a centre of excellence, the RAC also provides clinical education for Audiology undergraduates at the University of Kelaniya and volunteering opportunities for audiologists, speech and language pathologists and special educators to enhance their clinical skills. 

Dialog’s involvement in the RAC underscores its commitment to addressing marginalised issues such as hearing, speech, language, and learning difficulties, with the ultimate goal of integrating these matters into the country’s mainstream health system.
