The US dollar surpassed the Rs. 310 level against the Sri Lankan rupee today (January 7), for the first time since February 29, 2024, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The CBSL’s Indicative Rate of the USD/LKR Spot Exchange Rate was recorded at Rs. 310.02 today, marking a notable weakening of the local currency.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank’s daily exchange rate table showed the buying rate of the US dollar at Rs. 306.28, while the selling rate stood at Rs. 313.81.
The Central Bank has previously stated that the Sri Lankan rupee depreciated by 5.6 percent against the US dollar during 2025, reflecting ongoing pressures in the foreign exchange market.
