Uber and Hayleys Mobility join forces to accelerate New Energy Vehicle (NEV) adoption in Sri Lanka

Exclusive pricing and financing options on electric cars to help Uber drivers switch to cleaner, more affordable mobility

Uber, Sri Lanka's favourite ride-hailing app, and Hayleys Mobility, the mobility segment of Hayleys Fentons Limited, today announced an exclusive partnership to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible and affordable for Uber drivers. The collaboration brings together Uber's ride-hailing technology and driver network with Hayleys Mobility's new energy vehicle portfolio and EV charging ecosystem, helping drivers transition to electric mobility while reducing their everyday operating costs.

As part of the partnership, eligible Uber drivers will have access to the Kaiyi eVibe e04electric car at an exclusive discounted price, making the transition easier. Hayleys Mobility will also facilitate leasing options through its network of over 20 financing partners helping drivers overcome one of the biggest barriers to EV ownership - the upfront cost of purchasing a vehicle.

The offer will be available through Uber's driver app, allowing eligible drivers to discover the vehicle and explore purchase and financing options directly through the Uber app.

For drivers, switching to electric vehicles offers the potential to significantly reduce daily running costs by eliminating petrol and diesel expenses. Lower operating costs can help drivers retain more of their earnings, while offering riders a quieter, smoother and more comfortable travel experience.

Kaushalya Gunaratne, Country Manager - Mobility, Uber Sri Lanka, said: “For drivers, the switch to electric vehicles needs to make economic sense, not just environmental sense. By making EVs more affordable and accessible, our partnership with Hayleys Mobility can help drivers lower their operating costs, retain more of their earnings and contribute to cleaner mobility in Sri Lanka. We are confident that this encourages more drivers to make the switch.”

Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director, Hayleys Fentons Limited, said: “The brand promise of Hayleys Mobility, ‘One Brand for Every Journey’ extends well beyond the vehicle. It is about being accessible to our customers, delivering dependable service and building relationships that last. As we welcome Uber drivers to Hayleys Mobility, we want every interaction to give them confidence in the people and expertise behind their vehicle.”

Roshani Dharmaratne, Executive Director, Hayleys Mobility Limited, said: “Our island-wide dealer network brings us closer to our customers, from their first conversation with us to their after-sales needs. For Uber drivers, time on the road matters, so responsive service, clear advice and convenient access to support are central to the experience we aim to deliver.”

The collaboration also brings together Hayleys Mobility's growing EV portfolio and its StarCharge charging infrastructure ecosystem, supporting the development of a more accessible electric mobility network. Backed by the 148-year legacy of Hayleys PLC, Hayleys Mobility is working to expand access to electric vehicles and the infrastructure needed to support their wider adoption in Sri Lanka.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to making electric mobility more accessible, supporting driver livelihoods and contributing to Sri Lanka's transition towards a cleaner transport ecosystem.
