Tourist arrivals exceed 1 m in 2026

Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals have exceeded the target of 1 million so far this year, achieved by 28 May, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s latest data report.

According to the data, SLTDA pointed out that the total number of tourists who have visited the country so far this year is reported to be 1,010,807.

Despite a decline of tourist arrivals due to the Middle East war conflict, a recovery has been observed with a total of 134,530 tourists visiting the country in the first 28 days of May, noting a resurgence in tourist arrivals.

Indians topped accounting for 42% of the tourists who have arrived in the country so far in May, with a total of 56,063, followed by the United Kingdom (8,585) and China (8,439).
