Suwasevana Hospital, one of the Central Province’s most
trusted healthcare providers, proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary this
year, marking four decades of healing, innovation, and patient-centered care
since its founding on August 1st, 1985. From its humble beginnings to becoming
a leading private hospital in Kandy, Suwasevana’s journey reflects a commitment
to advancing medical excellence and community well-being.
Today, Suwasevana stands as a benchmark in private
healthcare with a 170-bed facility, 700+ dedicated staff, and a legacy of over
50,000 successful baby deliveries and 400,000 surgeries. Its state-of-the-art
infrastructure and specialist care have cemented its reputation as a hospital
where compassion and technology converge.
Over the years, the hospital has consistently led the way in
introducing advanced diagnostics and surgical capabilities to the region. The
Radiology Department is fully equipped with MRI, CT, DEXA, and Mammogram
facilities, while Suwasevana pioneered cardiothoracic surgery in Kandy’s
private sector with the first Cardiac Modular Theatre. Today, the hospital
operates with nine theatres, including a state-of-the-art Modular Theatre and
three specialized Eye Theatres equipped with dedicated microscopy, further
enhancing its capacity for advanced and complex procedures. Its Endoscopy
Unit, featuring the Olympus Evis X1, complements this advanced infrastructure,
raising the bar for patient care in the region.
In line with its growth, Suwasevana has also expanded its reach through a network
of laboratories in Akurana, Mawanella, Pilimathalawa, Kadugannawa, Matale,
Madawala, and Wattegama. Adding to its strength are new specialized business
units, including the ReLife Wellness Center, focused on holistic
wellness and corporate health, and the Specialized Liver Care Unit, the
first of its kind in the Central Province private sector. With comprehensive
surgery facilities and seamless Agrahara and Suwasahana insurance services, the
hospital continues to deliver convenience and confidence to its patients.
Beyond clinical care, Suwasevana has demonstrated a
steadfast commitment to community well-being. Monthly free medical camps,
annual donations to the School for the Deaf & Blind in Dodanwala, and
ongoing CSR initiatives underscore the hospital’s role as a partner in health
for the wider community.
Reflecting on this milestone, Chief Executive Officer,
Suwasevana Hospital, Mr. Nalin Pasqual, noted:
“This 40-year journey is more than a measure of time, it is a testament to
trust, progress, and compassion. From pioneering breakthroughs in surgery to
touching lives through community service, Suwasevana has grown alongside the
people of Kandy. As we look ahead, we remain committed to setting new standards
in healthcare while keeping our patients at the heart of everything we do.”
As Suwasevana steps into its fifth decade, the hospital
reaffirms its mission to deliver world-class healthcare in the heart of the
Central Province, combining innovation with humanity, for generations to come.
