Sunshine Holdings ushers in Sinhala and Hindu New Year with vibrant celebrations

Diversified conglomerate Sunshine Holdings PLC (CSE: SUN) marked the Sinhala and Hindu New Year with the ‘Sunshine Soorya Mangalyaya 2025’, bringing together over 750 employees to celebrate the Group’s annual traditional new year celebrations.

Held at the Steel Corporation Ground in Athurugiriya, this year’s celebrations resonated deeply with Sunshine's spirit of unity and collective joy. Employees from the Group’s diverse business units and regions participated in an array of traditional Avurudu activities and exciting games including 'Wasana Mutti' (breaking pots), 'Aliyata Ehe Thabeema' (placing the eye on the elephant), and ‘Kotta Pora' (pillow fighting), which captured the laughter and camaraderie of the day.

A spread of traditional delicacies such as 'Kiribath' (milk rice), and traditional sweetmeats such as ‘Mung Kavum' and 'Konda Kavum', added warmth and flavor to the festivities, fostering bonds as employees savored these culinary delicacies, amid cheerful interactions.

Among the highlights of the day's festivities was the selection of the Avurudu Kumara and Kumariya, titles bestowed upon the best- presented male and female participants. This year, the honors went to Akaz Dowd (Sunshine Medical Devices) and Selani Chamathka (Sunshine Pharmaceuticals). 

Additionally, the competition for the best hut, staged by the nine business verticals of Sunshine Holdings, showcased creativity and teamwork, with each team decorating their hut in a futuristic theme that reflected both innovation and tradition. The hut designed by Lina Manufacturing was declared the most creative, receiving recognition for its originality and embodiment of the New Year's festive spirit.

Sunshine Soorya Mangalyaya 2025’ served as a celebration of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year and a significant reflection of Sunshine Holdings' commitment to nurturing an inclusive workplace that honours Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.
