The Sri Lanka Hockey Federation was awarded the prestigious FIH Theo Ykema Award and a grant of one thousand Euros by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in recognition of its significant commitment to developing hockey in Sri Lanka. The award was presented at the FIH Centennial & Statutory Congress 2024, hosted by the Oman Hockey Association at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Muscat on Saturday.
The award celebrates Sri Lanka’s sustained efforts in advancing hockey, alongside more than 141 national federations who attended the ceremony. Representing Sri Lanka were Federation President P. Vishwanathan and Secretary B.M.C. Basnayake.
Sri Lanka Hockey Federation President P. Vishwanathan expressed his gratitude, saying, “It is an immense honour for the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation to receive the FIH Theo Ykema Award. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the growth of hockey in our country.
We are proud of how far we have come and are committed to continuing the development of the sport at all levels. This award motivates us to work even harder to bring more success to Sri Lanka hockey in the future.”
This year marked the FIH’s 100th anniversary, with the 49th FIH Congress providing a historic occasion for the global hockey community to come together. Oman Hockey welcomed over 500 delegates from 141 nations to discuss the sport’s future and celebrate a century of achievements during the three-day event.
