Sri Lanka Esports is all set to conduct the Esports Nationals, the official national team selection qualifiers conducted by the Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA), as the country begins its journey towards major international competitions starting with the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, where Esports will be featured as a medal event.
Recognised as the national governing body for Esports in Sri Lanka, SLESA continues to strengthen the country’s competitive Esports ecosystem through a structured and performance-driven selection pathway. The Esports Nationals serves as the primary national qualifier, identifying top talent across multiple titles and disciplines.
The Esports Nationals 2026 April will feature competitions across a mix of popular titles including PUBG MOBILE, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Honor of Kings and eFootball, alongside competitive titles unique to the Asian Games such as Identity V and Naraka: Bladepoint, bringing together the country’s top players and teams across both solo and team formats.
Athletes competing in the qualifiers will be aiming to secure a place in the National Player Pool, which forms the foundation for national team selection. According to the official selection framework of SLESA, players enter this pool through strong performances at the Sri Lanka Esports Nationals, where top 3 placements in each title are recognised, as well as through the National Esports Rankings, a points-based system that tracks consistent performance across ranked Esports tournaments held in the country.
From this pool, the National Selection Committee appointed by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs will finalise the National Esports Team for each title, with selected athletes going on to represent Sri Lanka at international competitions.
“Esports Nationals represents the defining pathway for Sri Lankan athletes to earn the honour of national selection and represent the country on the global stage. For many, wearing the national jersey in Esports was once a distant dream and today, that dream is realised through a structured and competitive system built on performance, consistency and excellence. It also plays a critical role in preparing athletes for global competition, particularly as Sri Lanka sets its sights on events such as the Asian Games. This platform ensures that only the very best are chosen to carry Sri Lanka forward,” said Ramesh Liyanage, Secretary of Sri Lanka Esports.
