Spirit of Cricket triumphs over Colombo Masters

In an exhilarating Masters Cricket contest, Spirit of Cricket secured a 25-run victory over Colombo Masters, who boasted former International and First Class players, showcasing resilience and all round excellence. The match saw standout performances from both sides, in the end Spirit of Cricket’s well rounded effort proved decisive, where the encounter was played at the PUSA ground Horana.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Spirit of Cricket posted an impressive 260/5 in 40 overs with a solid batting display led by Jeff Mays (51 off 45) and Allan Bougoure (47 off 42). Jeff Mays looked set for a big innings, but had to retire hurt after a brisk knock. Jamie Pitt (32 off 29) and David Newham (26 off 16) provided crucial late-order acceleration, ensuring the team reached a competitive total.

Colombo Masters bowling effort was spearheaded by Riuad Fowzie (2/46 in 8 overs) and Suranjith Dharmasena (2/23 in 3 overs), who struck early blows.

Chasing 261 for victory, Colombo Masters showed promise with Shezzard Nizar (50 off 53) and Wijayananda Perera (50 off 59) anchoring the innings, However, with both retiring hurt, the momentum shifted. Suranjith Dharmasena (44 off 50) attempted to stabilise the chase, tight bowling from Spirit of Cricket stifled their progress.

The pick of the bowlers was Kevin Mason (2/10 in 3 overs), who delivered crucial breakthrough, also Arty Richardson (2/38 in 8 overs) played a key role in restricting the hosts to 235/6, sealing a well-earned win for Spirit of Cricket.
