Around 1,500 additional bus services are operating alongside the regular schedule, while a standby fleet of 50 buses has been positioned around Colombo for emergency deployment if needed.

Meanwhile, Director General of the National Transport Commission Nilan Miranda said that intercity buses will operate from key transport hubs including Bastian Mawatha, Kadawatha, Makumbura, and Kaduwela.

In addition, Sri Lanka Railways has introduced special train services running until the 19th of April to accommodate New Year travel.

These include special routes between:

Colombo Fort and Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura and Kankesanthurai
Maradana and Matara
Maradana and Beliatta

Department of Railways also announced that the 'Rajarata Rajini' Train, which usually operates between Beliatta and Mahawa, will be extended to Anuradhapura during the festive period.

Additionally, the Mahawa Office Train, typically running from Colombo Fort to Mahawa, will operate up to Anuradhapura today and tomorrow only.

These special train services are designed to support both outbound travel from Colombo to rural areas and return journeys after the New Year celebrations.
