Siyapatha Finance Strengthens Employee Commitment to Sustainability through “Echoes of Earth – A Journey into Nature”

Reinforcing its commitment to building a strong internal culture of sustainability, Siyapatha Finance PLC recently organized “Echoes of Earth – A Journey into Nature,” an experiential environmental learning programme tailored for its Sustainability Task Team. The team comprises representatives from the company’s island-wide branch network and various departments, creating a broad internal platform to drive sustainability awareness and engagement across the organization.

Held on the 11th September 2026 at the Beddagana Wetland Park, Kotte, the programme provided employees with an opportunity to step beyond the conventional workplace setting and engage directly with nature, developing a deeper understanding of biodiversity, environmental conservation, and the critical importance of protecting natural ecosystems.

Designed as more than a nature-based retreat, the initiative forms a key pillar of Siyapatha Finance’s ongoing efforts to foster employee ownership of sustainability. It highlights the belief that meaningful environmental progress is driven not only by corporate policies, but by the everyday awareness, commitment, and actions of employees.

Emphasizing the strategic vision behind the initiative, Mathisha Hewavitharana, Chief Executive Officer of Siyapatha Finance PLC, stated: “True sustainability cannot simply be mandated from the top down; it must be lived, understood, and embraced by every individual within our organization. The guided nature experience was facilitated by Biodiversity Sri Lanka (BSL), led by Dr. Chamitha De Alwis and his team, whose expert insights enriched the programme with practical perspectives on biodiversity and the value of Sri Lanka’s natural habitats.

During the wetland exploration, participants gained practical insights into Wetland ecosystem functions and ecological importance, Biodiversity, species diversity, and the interdependence of local flora and fauna, the vital role wetlands play in supporting urban wildlife and natural habitats, the direct relationship between human activities, corporate operations, and environmental stewardship.

In addition to field observations, the Sustainability Task Team participated in interactive group sessions facilitated by the BSL team. The first session allowed participants to reflect on key learnings of the day, while the second focused on exploring practical strategies to align sustainability principles with the financial sector and integrate them deeper into Siyapatha Finance’s everyday business operations.

“Echoes of Earth – A Journey into Nature” marks the first step in a planned series of experiential learning initiatives aimed at continuously developing the capabilities of Siyapatha Finance’s sustainability advocates.
