Seylan Bank’s hockey team has achieved a historic double in 2026, securing two major unbeaten championship victories and further strengthening their legacy in mercantile hockey.
The latest milestone came at the Mercantile Hockey 9-A-Side Tournament 2026, where Seylan Bank emerged unbeaten champions of the JXG MHA tournament. This marks the first time in Seylan Bank’s history that the team has claimed the title. Adding to the achievement, Seylan Bank’s Sandaruwan Madhushanka was named Best Player of the Tournament for his outstanding contribution to the team’s campaign.
The victory builds on another landmark achievement earlier this year, when Seylan Bank was crowned unbeaten A Division Champions of the Mercantile Hockey League 2026, marking the Bank’s first-ever A Division League championship.
According to the bank, the achievements reflect the commitment, discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit of Seylan’s employees who continue to pursue excellence beyond their professional roles. The back-to-back titles also highlight the strength and consistency of the Bank’s hockey team and its ability to perform at the highest level across different formats of the sport.
Speaking on the achievements, Amanthi Motha, Assistant General Manager – Human Resources and Vice President of the Seylan Bank Sports Club, said: “At Seylan Bank, we believe in creating an environment where our people can pursue their passions and grow beyond their professional roles.
“The achievements of our hockey team are a strong reflection of the dedication, discipline, teamwork and resilience demonstrated throughout their journey. These victories are not only important milestones in our sporting journey, but also demonstrate what can be achieved when our staff are given the opportunity to pursue their passions. We are proud to see our employees representing Seylan with such commitment and excellence.”
