Sakura Products & Exports (Pvt) Ltd. has been awarded at the Entro Queen Excellence Awards 2025 – Leading Ladies in Business. Based in the rural village of Pitakanda in the Kolonna Division of the Ratnapura District, the company has built a strong reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s top producers and exporters of food products. Managing Director Mrs. Manjula Janaki and Mr. Gamini Jayasinghe received the award.
Established in 2006 as a small business, Sakura has now grown into a trusted name in the food manufacturing sector. The company produces and exports sesame seeds, premium quality value-added sesame products, spices, herbs, and cashews in both organic and conventional forms. Their products, particularly sesame seeds and sesame-based products are made using traditional methods and modern equipment. Everything is processed without chemicals, which has made Sakura a reliable choice for leading hotels, bakeries, and international buyers. Their signature ingredient, Ceylon sesame, is hand-harvested, dried, and carefully processed, maintaining their quality from farm to finish. Sakura supports an island-wide network of around 300 farmers who grow raw materials for the company. A large part of this network is based in rural areas, and more than 90% of Sakura’s workforce is women. The company has created direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 200 people in Ratnapura alone. The company an employee welfare society and provides scholarships to students from low-income backgrounds. Their efforts in sustainable farming, women’s empowerment, and rural entrepreneurship have earned them industry recognition and contributed to the country’s economic development. Despite challenges such as limited infrastructure, Sakura continues to grow and export its products to international markets.
