Royal College were well placed at 70 for no loss in reply to Wesley’s first innings total of 214 on the opening day of their 133rd annual Inter-Schools Under-19 cricket match played for the Sir Frank Gunasekera Shield at Campbell Park yesterday.
Hirun Liyanarachchi and Rehan Peiris took Royal off to a solid start with an excellent opening stand with both stroking four boundaries each.
This was after Wesley had plodded for nearly 75 overs for their modest first innings total of 214 runs, having been invited to take first lease of the wicket.
Sehandu Athauda and Rashmika Amararathne made 47 runs each with the former facing 97 deliveries and struck eight boundaries.
The latter batted for even a longer period and was ninth out with the score at 183 having faced 106 deliveries.
