Preparations underway for Grade 6 education reforms in 2017

The Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Education Reforms, chaired by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, discussed progress on Grade One reforms and steps to launch Grade Six reforms in 2027.

Activity-based textbooks for Grade One’s second and third terms are being prepared, with practical activity books for the second term to be distributed after April school holidays.

Teacher training and curriculum review for Grade Six modules are ongoing, with international experts to advise on evaluation and assessment.

A Cabinet paper has been submitted to establish a National Steering Committee on Education, with district- and divisional-level committees to follow.
