Damsath Pieris and Ananya Norbert emerged as the champions of the Under-14 boys’ and girls’ categories at the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) tournament, which concluded its first week at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo on Saturday.
In the boys’ final, Pieris faced a tough challenge from Yudeeraya Atapattu Maliyadeva College. The match was competitive, with the first set tightly contested before Pieris claimed it 7-6. The second set also saw close exchanges, but Pieris managed to secure a 6-4 victory to take the title.
Earlier in the tournament, Pieris displayed dominance in the semi-finals, defeating Revan Amarasinghe decisively with a score of 6-0, 6-3. On the girls’ side, Ananya Norbert exclled against Elisa Kahagalle in the final. After a closely contested first set that ended 7-5 in her favor,
Ananya took control in the second set, winning 6-1. In her semi-final match, she also excelled, overwhelming Sahansa Damsiluni with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The tournament began on October 29, and the second week featuring the ATF Under-16 tournament for boys and girls is set to commence today.
