Pelicans Sports Club Kurunegala and Super Sun Sports Club Beruwela recorded crucial victories in the Group ‘B’ fifth-week matches of the ongoing FFSL Champions League 2025–26 at the Race Course Ground, Colombo.
Organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), the Champions League is being contested by 14 top-division teams and in Sunday’s matches, Pelicans SC defeated Matara City SC 4–1 while Super Sun SC edged past St. Mary’s SC Jaffna 2–1.
The encounter between Pelicans SC and Matara City SC was largely one-sided with Pelicans taking a 3–1 lead at halftime. Danil Musatkin was the standout performer for Pelicans, scoring two quick goals in the sixth and ninth minutes. His stunning display earned him the Man of the Match award.
Pelicans added two more goals through Earnest Addo and Kajo Aakye in the second half while Matara City’s lone goal came from a penalty knocked in by Andrews Nana in the 44th minute.
The match also had Matara City’s Isaac Addevu sent off with a red card in the 70th minute. In the match between Super Sun SC and St. Mary’s SC Jaffna, a closely contested match was the scenario and the decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Ismaila Abumere scored the winning goal to seal a 2–1 victory for Super Sun.
