Janith Batugedera the promising Table Tennis Player of Royal College Colombo recently performed well in both domestic and International tournaments and he got chance to take part at the” Shaping Future Stars “under 17 coaching Programme conducted by Asian Table Tennis Union Academy in Doha Qatar for youngsters and Janith is a key member of the four member Sri Lanka participants at the Qatar programme .
Janith Batugedara won the Gold Medal for Under19 Boys Team event at South Asian Youth TT championship while he also won the bronze medal in the Doubles event at the same tournament .He also represented Sri Lanka National team at the 27th Asian Championships 2024 held Astana – Kazakhstan in October 2024 and he represented Sri Lanka Under 19 Team at the Asian Youth Championship 2024 held in China In addition Janith participated in the South Asian Youth Championships 2023 – India Under15 Boys team and he was able to win three medals Team – Silver medal and Men’s Singles – Bronze and Doubles- Bronze medal.
He also represented Sri Lanka Under15 boys team at the Asian Youth Championship 2023 held at Qatar,South Asian Table Tennis Championship 2021- Maldives represented of the Under 15 Boys team and excelled by winning the Bronze Medals for Team & Doubles events. The young dedicated paddler from Royal was. selected to represent Asian Junior Table Tennis championships 2021 in – Laos but could not participate due to financial crisis in the country.
In addition several achievements at domestic level was achieved by this young paddler .Janith captained the Western Province TT team at the National Sport Games 2024 and won third places (Bronze Medals) for Singles ,Team and Doubles events.He also took part at the National School Games 2024 – Western Province and won Singles event – Champion as well as Team event Runner up.
He was the Junior National Table Tennis Championship last year with winning Under 15 – Champion title and Under 19 Doubles – Runner-up as well as 2021 junior National championship under 15 Champion and under 13 runner up title. Janith also took part at the National Table Tennis Championship 2023 and reached men’s Singles Quarter final and made good fight against senior high ranked paddlers
At the Junior National Table tennis Championship 2022 Janith won the Under15 Boys and under 17 third place .He has shown his potential at Junior level and very keen to continue this sport along with his studies to go forward.
