Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange earnings, in June 2024, from exports, remittances and gross services, had exceeded imports by 586 million US dollars, latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) showed.The foreign earnings stood at 2,033 million dollars, official data showed.
Exports for the month of June were 1,077 million dollars, remittances were 519.6 million dollars, and gross services, including tourism, were 436.2 million dollars, the CBSL data shows.
Imports were 1,446.6 million US dollars in June, CBSL data shows.
CBSL data also shows the exchange rate of the rupee, compared to the U.S. dollar, has appreciated by 7.1 percent in the first seven months of 2024.
Meanwhile, gross official reserves increased to 5.7 billion dollars at the end of June 2024, from 4.4 billion dollars at the end December 2023, CBSL data shows
