McKenzie Consultant Coach for SL team

Sri Lanka Cricket appointed former South African batsman Neil McKenzie as the National Team’s Consultant Coach for a short stint focused on two test matches against South Africa which will commence from November 27 at Durban South Africa.

Sri Lanka Cricket appointed similar type specialist coach Ian Bell for the last England test series and head coach Sanath Jayasuriya and his supporting staff is ready to work with new consultant coach during the South Africa tour.

McKenzie will work with a group of Sri Lankan players who departed for South Africa on Sunday to participate in a pre-series camp ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. In addition Sri Lanka batting specialist coach Dhammika Sudharshana also joined r this pre training camp with analyst Jehan Mubarak, Physiotherapist Jonathan Porter and Throw down specialist Calista Anton.

McKenzie will bring in vital, in-depth insights about the South African conditions to help Sri Lankan players adapt to the challenge,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO, Sri Lanka Cricket.

The former South African batsman, who scored closer to 5,000 international runs for South Africa across formats, will work with the Sri Lankan players from November 13th to 21st.

The upcoming test series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship Cycle for 2023–2025, making it a crucial encounter for Sri Lanka to stay in the race for a place in the WTC final.

Sri Lanka test skipper Dhananjaya De Silva, Dimuth Karunaratne Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Kumara, Prabath Jayasuriya, Nishan Peiris Milan Rathnayake, Kasun Rajitha and Lasith Embuldeniya are the ten players who left for South Africa.

In addition after the New Zealand ODI series Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis and Asitha Fernando will join the test squad.
