A programme to issue smart tokens to patients is being launched for the first time at a hospital in the country at the Karapitiya National Hospital to prevent the inconvenience of waiting in queues when dispensing medicines to clinical patients.
The new digitization programme of the outpatient department of the Karapitiya National Hospital, the main tertiary health service provider in the Southern Province, was inspected by Health Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni.
The Health Deputy Minister observed the implementation of the programme and the convenience that the patients and staff have experienced through the system. Steps were taken to provide the necessary instructions to the officials to implement the programme more systematically.
Karapitiya National Hospital Director Dr.S.D.U.M.Ranga and other officials informed the Minister that this programme is currently being implemented as a pilot project, and that it is planned to upgrade it to a QR system in the future and that this system is also expected to be implemented for obtaining external medicines.
This has also provided a special opportunity to the Tri-forces, Police, clergy, retired and elderly communities. The officials informed the Deputy Minister that the implementation of this system is receiving very positive and high responses from the patients.
Under this new digitalisation system, patients receive their prescriptions at the clinic, submit the information at the dispensing point, and then receive a token after registering it. Accordingly, the medicines belonging to the relevant number are issued without any inconvenience.
