Sri Lanka suffered a heavy 124-run defeat against India in the semi-final of the men’s T20 cricket competition at the 20th Asian Games and will face Bangladesh tomorrow in the bronze medal match.
India advanced to the gold medal match where they will meet Pakistan tomorrow.
India batted first and scored 169 for seven in 20 overs setting Sri Lanka a target of 170 runs.
Ishan Kishan produced an outstanding innings, remaining unbeaten on 80 from 46 balls including five sixes and four fours. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi contributed 38 runs.
Sri Lanka struggled in reply and were bowled out for just 45 runs in 9.5 overs. It was the first time a Sri Lankan team had been dismissed for fewer than 50 runs in the history of Asian Games T20 cricket.
Six Sri Lankan batsmen were dismissed without scoring. They were Sineth Jayawardena, Sohan de Silva, Lasith Croospulle, Ashen Bandara, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Binura Fernando.
Nuwanidu Fernando top-scored for Sri Lanka with 15, followed by Sahan Arachchige with nine and Tharindu Rathnayake with five.
