The International Hospitality Management Academy (IHMA), an educational institution based in Colombo 7, showcased its Australian-based Hotel Management degrees and courses has launched an innovative scheme offering a ‘Scholarship Awarding program’ of their short courses, designed to enable companies and benefactors to use as educational gifts or CSR projects.
Spearheaded by Chairperson, IHMA Suwenitha Senanayake and Chief Executive Officer IHMA Dilip De Silva, this program enables organizations to contribute to developing the tourism industry by promoting training and certification. Today quality education is costly. These two short courses in Pastry and Cookery are for six months and have a path to employment. Certifications are provided by Culinary Solutions Australia International. Therefore these short courses serve as a foundational step for individuals aspiring to pursue an Australian degree in hotel management.
Speaking at the launch Chairperson, IHMA Suwenitha Senanayake said, this initiative was taken especially to help those in this who wish to join the tourism industry and educate themselves. With a firm foundation, they can rise quickly in this field. As there is a massive requirement for staff in the tourism sector this will be an excellent opportunity for those who want to take part in the progress of the tourism industry by extending a hand in help. Armed with this certificate they can apply for overseas positions in the industry as well.
Though the IHMA has recently been established in Colombo, Senanayake is optimistic that the institute will quickly gain popularity as they are offering students the opportunity to study in Australia at an affordable price. Further, there are degree programs such as the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management, where students can enrol and study for the first year diploma in hospitality management at IHMA and proceed to Australia for the second and third years at the Hotel School Australia. Students who complete the second year study program are eligible for the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management award from the prestigious Southern Cross University, Australia.
