Heavy rainfall above 50 mm likely in several areas today

The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers at several places in the Uva, Eastern and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, after 2.00 p.m. today (29).

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is possible at some locations in these areas.

A few showers may also occur in the coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers.
