Flemingo Duty Free has partnered with The Moodie Davitt Report’s global KickCancerThon initiative, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility by pledging a donation of LKR 1 million to support the National Cancer Hospital (Apeksha Hospital), Maharagama. The donation was officially announced during the ICA International Marathon, held at Galle Face Green on 14 December 2025. The high-profile sporting event brought together athletes, corporate leaders and community members in a shared spirit of unity, awareness and social responsibility, highlighting the power of collective action in the fight against cancer.

KickCancerThon is a global movement initiated by The Moodie Davitt Report to raise awareness and funds for cancer care worldwide. By joining this initiative, Flemingo Duty Free continues to extend its commitment beyond business, contributing meaningfully to critical healthcare needs within the communities it serves. The Indian Cultural Association (ICA) Sri Lanka, a registered non-profit organisation with over six years of service, organised the marathon with the aim of bringing together runners from around the world to Colombo to run for a cause that supports lives. The event successfully combined international participation with a strong humanitarian purpose, reinforcing the importance of community-driven initiatives in addressing national health challenges. The donation, made in favour of the National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, was ceremonially handed over by H.E. Deputy High Commissioner of India, Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, to Dr. Randima Nanayakkara, Consultant Oncosurgeon. The funds will be utilised to support the hospital’s Surgical Department, contributing towards critical patient care services and essential medical requirements.

Marking the occasion, members of the Flemingo Duty Free team also sponsored and actively participated in the ICA International Marathon, symbolising the company’s commitment not only through financial support but also through hands-on involvement and advocacy for cancer awareness. Commenting on the initiative, P. K. Thimmayya, Director of Flemingo Duty Free, stated, “The marathon, a global initiative with wide international participation, provided an ideal platform to raise awareness, engage with the community and contribute to the greater good. This initiative represents a meaningful step by Flemingo Duty Free in supporting local communities and advancing cancer awareness.” Through its partnership with KickCancerThon, Flemingo Duty Free continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a positive and lasting impact, supporting vital healthcare initiatives that make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients across Sri Lanka.
