Fitch Ratings recalibrates Sri Lanka’s National Rating scale

Fitch Ratings yesterday announced it has recalibrated its Sri Lanka National Rating scale to reflect the changes in the relative creditworthiness among the Sri Lankan issuers.
This follows Fitch’s upgrade of Sri Lanka’s sovereign Long-Term Local-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to ‘B-‌’/Stable, from ‘CCC+’‌, on September 22, 2026.
“The recalibration may result in rating revisions for some issuers with the Sri Lankan national ratings.

These rating revisions will be announced soon,” Fitch said in a commentary.

The national scale ratings are a risk ranking of the issuers in a particular market, designed to help the local investors differentiate risk. Sri Lanka’s national ratings are denoted by the unique identifier ‘(lka)’. Fitch adds this identifier to reflect the unique nature of the Sri Lankan national scale.

The national scales are not comparable with Fitch’s international ratings scales or with other countries’ national rating scales.
