First Capital Holdings PLC, a subsidiary of JXG (Janashakthi Group) and a pioneering force in Sri Lanka’s capital markets landscape, together with First Capital Treasuries PLC (FCT), has successfully obtained the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Verification Certificate for the financial year 2025/26 (01 April 2025 – 31 March 2026), issued by the Sri Lanka Climate Fund (Pvt) Ltd under the Ministry of Environment (Opinion No: SLCF/CFP/0581, dated 04 June 2026).
The GHG statement has been independently verified in accordance with the specifications of ISO 14064-3:2019, complying with the requirements of ISO 14064-1:2018, with a reasonable level of assurance.
As a capital markets institution, financed emissions represent a significant component of the company’s overall emissions footprint. First Capital is progressing towards measuring and incorporating financed emissions into its GHG inventory. Emissions arising from investment portfolios have been excluded from the defined organisational boundary of assessment. The verified emissions for the financial year 2025/26 were 194 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent for First Capital Holdings PLC and 54 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent for First Capital Treasuries PLC.
First Capital’s sustainability journey is anchored in the belief that long-term success stems from empowering people through financial literacy and responsible social and environmental practices. At the heart of its agenda is a commitment to advancing financial stability, enabling individuals and communities to make informed financial decisions, build economic strength and contribute meaningfully to national development.
This core focus is complemented by initiatives in community engagement, climate action, and environmental protection, ensuring a balanced approach to sustainable growth. Aligned with SLFRS S2 and global best practices, First Capital champions programmes that promote inclusive progress, sustainable development, and long-term wellbeing across Sri Lanka. By embedding financial literacy and sustainability into its core strategies, the company aspires to create a financially empowered and environmentally conscious nation.
As a leading player in Sri Lanka’s capital markets, First Capital recognises that long-term value creation is closely linked with environmental stewardship and strong governance. The verification of its GHG emissions marks a meaningful step in advancing the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda and reinforces its contribution towards building a more sustainable financial ecosystem.
Commenting on this achievement, Diluni Danushika, Head of Sustainability & Corporate Reporting of First Capital Holdings PLC, said, “This verification reflects our commitment to transparent environmental reporting, accountability, and continuous improvement. As a responsible investment institution, we recognise that creating long-term value requires strong environmental stewardship and governance. By embedding sustainability into our operations and decision-making, we aim to contribute towards a more resilient and sustainable financial ecosystem in Sri Lanka.”
This recognition further strengthens stakeholder confidence in First Capital’s ESG governance framework, underscoring its commitment to measurable environmental accountability and transparent reporting.
