First 4D angio CT suite in South Asia installed at Sri Jayewardenepura hospital

The Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital has installed the first 4D Angio CT suite in the South Asian region, marking a major milestone in advanced medical care in the country. The state-of-the-art system, funded by the Japanese government at a cost of Rs. 925 million, was inaugurated yesterday (24) by Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, with the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Akio Isomata, also in attendance.

In addition to the 4D Angio CT unit, the hospital unveiled a fully equipped modern Dental Health Unit with 10 chairs, funded by the Japanese government at Rs. 91 million. Until now, the hospital had no dedicated dental treatment facility, and the new unit is expected to provide significant relief to patients seeking dental care.

Speaking at the event, Minister Dr. Jayatissa highlighted that the new 4D Angio CT system is a national asset and urged hospital staff to utilize the technology to its maximum capacity. He also highlighted the importance of improving patient services, reducing waiting lists, and making full use of modern medical equipment provided by the government and international partners.

The Minister further said that the hospital, originally donated by the Japanese government as a tribute to former President J.R. Jayewardene, is a unique institution within Sri Lanka’s health system and called for systematic and efficient service delivery to enhance its value to the public.

The inauguration was attended by senior officials, including MP Devananda Suraweera, Mayor of Maharagama Municipal Council Saman Amarakoon, university representatives, hospital management, and staff, alongside members of the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka. The hospital’s official website was also launched during the ceremony.
