Export-Oriented Business Clinics Empower Regional Entrepreneurs in the North Western Province

North Western Provincial Office of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with District/Divisional Secretariat Offices successfully organized a series of Export-Oriented Business Clinic programme in North Western Province attracting more than 100 participants across Kurunegala and Puttalam districts on 11th September & 16th October respectively.

The Business Clinics targeted export-oriented SME entrepreneurs engaged in variety of sectors such as coconut and coconut-based products, spices, food and beverages, ornamental fish, cut flowers and foliage, textiles and apparel, and handicrafts etc. Both programmes were organized with the support and active contribution of Export Development Officers (EDOs) stationed in District/ Divisional Secretariat Offices in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.

The programme aimed to bridge the knowledge gap among regional SME entrepreneurs by providing tailored advisory services to address export-related challenges, raising awareness of export procedures and requirements, and strengthening their business capabilities and export readiness.

The Kurunegala district programme was graced by the District Secretary of Kurunegala Mr. D. M. K. C. Dissanayake and Additional District Secretary (Lands) of Kurunegala Mrs. Niluka K. Jayawardhana and Puttalam district programme was organized in collaboration with the Divisional Secretariat Office - Chilaw. Officials representing key stakeholder institutions such as Inland Revenue Department (IRD), Industrial Development Board (IDB), Small Enterprise Development Division (SEDD), National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) & Financial Institutions also engaged with entrepreneurs to provide One-on-One advisory sessions. These sessions focused on addressing entrepreneurs’ specific product and business development needs and providing information on available support services to enhance their business capabilities and export readiness.

Additionally, the programme provided a valuable platform for regional entrepreneurs to connect with service providers to access export-quality packaging and labelling solutions, logistics services, certification, testing and inspection services etc. Feedback received from participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the arrangements made for the programmes.

The EDB plans to conduct follow-up activities with programme participants to identify their specific needs, assess areas requiring further assistance, and facilitate appropriate support to strengthen their businesses and export readiness. These efforts aim to ensure the continuity of support beyond the clinics, enhance the effectiveness of EDB interventions, and ultimately increase the contribution of regional enterprises to the country’s overall exports.

The EDB extends its sincere appreciation to all participating government institutions, private-sector service providers, partner organizations, and entrepreneurs for their valuable contributions and active participation in the programme. Further, EDB looks forward to continuing such collaborative initiatives to strengthen SME capabilities, enhance export readiness and promote export-oriented business development across the regions, thereby contributing to the growth and diversification of Sri Lanka’s national exports.
