EDB, CBSL hold seminar on Central Bank rules for electronics manufacturers

Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) in collaboration with Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) organised this event on 6 October 2026 at the CBSL premises, with the participation of over 35 senior management representatives from the Electronic and Electrical sector.

The program aimed to support the country’s electronics and electrical sector by leveraging the expertise available within the CBSL to share knowledge and to resolve issues in the areas of foreign exchange rules, inward and outward transactional regulations, and forex repatriation regulations.

Sri Lanka’s electronic and electrical industry is placed as the fifth largest merchandise export revenue earner of the country and has earned $ 440 million in 2025 with over 100 companies and over 37,000 employees. Making an increasingly healthy contribution towards the country’s export-led economic development progression, the electrical and electronics industry has marked its emergence into the global electronics value-added supply chain with products and services finding acceptance amongst reputed global market leaders.

Electronic and electrical sector is one of the focused sectors identified under the National Export Development Plan (NEDP) and a Plan of Action has been drawn up to achieve an export target of $ 01 billion by 2028. To achieve this target, it is essential that foreign exchange rules, regulations, monitory and fiscal policies are export friendly.

EDB Director General Eranadika Dissnayake addressed the gathering and explained the objectives of the seminar, while the CBSL Department of Foreign Exchange Deputy Director Kapila G. Weerkoon, Senior Assistant Director Nuwan Jayaweera and Communications Department Assistant Director Ishadhi Poornima outlined on foreign exchange rules, transactional and working capital regulations, and forex repatriation regulations relevant to the exporters.

The event provided a platform for electronics and electrical sector and CBSL to connect, share knowledge, and discuss the regulatory and operational issues faced by electronic and electrical manufacturing companies and how to resolve them.
