Dr. Ilma Osman Sedar honored with multiple prestigious national and international awards

Dr. S. F. Ilma Osman Sedar has been recognized with a distinguished series of national and international honors in 2025, celebrating her outstanding leadership, clinical excellence, and transformative contributions to mental health care in Sri Lanka. Her achievements include the Excellence in Psychology & Counseling – Legendary Woman of the Year 2025 at the Women Legends Awards, the Outstanding Psychological Advisor Award in Sri Lanka 2025 at the Iconic Awards, and the Excellence in Clinical Psychology Consulting & Rehabilitation Award of the Year at the Lakwanitha Abhimani Awards 2025. She was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Psychology from Washington Digital University, USA, in 2024. These recognitions reflect her unwavering dedication to advancing psychological well-being, strengthening mental health education, and expanding rehabilitation services across communities. Dr. Sedar’s Honorary Doctorate acknowledged her exceptional service, research leadership, and global contributions to improving mental health standards.

Her award at the Lakwanitha Abhimani Awards 2025 highlighted her compassionate, patient-centered approach to counseling and rehabilitation, while the Iconic Awards 2025, held at the Monarch Imperial Hotel, celebrated her influential role in national mental health advisory services. The Women Legends Awards 2025 further honored her efforts in empowering women in academia, research, and healthcare leadership. An accomplished researcher, Dr. Sedar received the Outstanding Performance in Health Education Award for her study on supervised hand-muscle strengthening exercises for cerebral palsy patients under the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. She is a Member of the Global Institute of Counseling Professionals (GIOCP) and a Graduate Member of the Lanka Association of Psychologists & Counselling Professionals (LAPCP). Dr. Sedar is the founder and lead consultant of Hope Wellness Center, Wattala, where she provides counseling, psychotherapy, and therapeutic services, contributing significantly to community mental health development.
