The Colombo Stock Exchange recorded its sharpest decline in over two months today (09), with the benchmark indices closing significantly lower.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) dropped by 231.7 points, or 1.11%, to settle at 20,674.1 points, marking the steepest single-day fall since June 23, 2025. This also marked the third decline in the past four trading sessions, underscoring renewed volatility in the market.
The S&P SL20 Index, which tracks the performance of 20 leading companies, also fell sharply, shedding 55.04 points to close at 5,900.32 points.
Market turnover for the day stood at Rs. 9.04 billion. Notably, foreign investors were net buyers, with purchases amounting to Rs. 1.5 billion against relatively low foreign sales of Rs. 120 million. Meanwhile, domestic investors accounted for Rs. 7.54 billion in purchases and Rs. 8.92 billion in sales.
